The neck plays an important role in defining the beauty of the face. A slim and well-defined neck accentuates the jaw and is vital in giving the face shape and structure.
Fat can distort the shape of the neck and give it a fatter and bulkier appearance. When analysing the neck, one has to ascertain where the fat is. Is the fat just under the skin, or is it beneath the muscles of the neck? If the fat is deep to the muscles then liposuction is not appropriate
The examination of the neck has to also identify how much contribution the excess skin has, and if there is any separation of the muscle in the neck, giving it an aged appearance. If these findings are positive, then a skin tightening measure may be necessary, or a neck lift
Neck liposuction is a medical operation that aims to extract the excess fat from your neck and jawline and give you a fit and fat-free neck. This liposuction isn’t considered a weight-loss technique, but it is an extremely effective way of targetting the fat specifically in your neck and easily and safely extract it.
Neck liposuction is carried out under a general anesthetic, and only in very rare cases local anaesthetic and sedation
The incisions are small- 1.5cm and made under the chin and also hidden behind each ear
Dr. Faisal has several liposuction machines available. These include VASER®️ Microaire®️ and Laser lipo. He will use the most appropriate technology depending on the needs of your case
If there is mild skin laxity then Dr. Faisal will use the J-Plasma®️ machine to tighten up the loose tissue. Dr. Faisal will have determined the need for this in the pre-operative consultation
The incisions will be closed using dissolving stitches and glue
You will awake with a compression strap around your neck
There will be minimal to moderate amounts of pain due to the local anaesthetic added to the liposuction solution
You will go home a few hours after the procedure is finished
Painkiller and antibiotics will be given to on discharge
Dr. Faisal advises that you apply an ice pack to the neck for 10 minutes every hour for the first 3-4 days. This will help to minimise the swelling
The compression garment must be worn for 1 week.
Dr. Faisal will review you at 1 week and rarely needs to see you after this.
The majority of the swelling will have resolved by 1 week, but residual swelling will still persist for 6 weeks
The pain and discomfort are mild, so most people feel like they can return to work after 3-4 days. However, most people are conscious of wearing the garment and choose to return after 1 week
Dr. Faisal recommends you start taking arnica tablets 1 week leading up to the operation. This will help to minimise the bruising
Smoking has a detrimental effect on surgical procedures and must be stopped 3 before the operation
Stop taking blood-thinning medication such as Aspirin, Warfarin, and Plavix one week before the procedure
You will not need much support at home, however, taking a 1-week vacation from work is recommended
