Excess fat of the thighs is a common concern for many patients, particularly women. The 'saddlebag' area of the outer thigh, the upper area of the inner thigh and fatty deposits around the knee tend to be the focus of concern
These areas can alter the smooth silhouette of the hips and legs. Patients are unable to wear certain dresses or trousers, due to the protrusion of these areas.
Dr. Faisal will perform an assessment and determine if liposuction is a procedure that can give you the results you require. He will assess the volume of fat you have but also assess the quality of the skin. If the skin is of poor quality, or too loose, then removing fat will give a bad result. This is especially true around the inner upper thigh
Dr. Faisal uses a variety of machines. These include VASER®️, Microaire®️, and laser liposuction. These are all designed to improve the efficiency of liposuction and speed up your recovery
Dr. Faisal is also using J-Plasma technology. If you have a moderate amount of skin excess, then this is an effective tool in tightening the skin after liposuction
Thigh liposuction is performed under general anaesthetic
It does not involve an overnight stay and patients can go home the same day
The incisions are 1.5cm and discretely located in the groin and back of the groin
The liposuction is performed in a manner that gives a smooth contour and minimises any over or under correction.
The incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures and glue
You will awaken with a compression garment around your abdomen and thighs
A few hours after the completion of the procedure you will be discharged with antibiotics and painkillers
There will be moderate amounts of pain for 4-5 days. This is well controlled with the pain killers
It is normal to have swelling after the operation. This will decrease over the first 6 weeks, and it is typical to have some residual swelling for 6 months.
You may also notice straw-coloured fluid coming out of the incision sites. This is normal. It typically stops after 48-72 hours. This fluid can sometimes collect under the skin and may need a painless aspiration in clinic
Dr. Faisal will review you at 1 week
You will be advised to start the manual lymphatic massage at this point. This improves the swelling quicker and optimizes the smoothness of the result
You can start driving after 3 days and most people are back to work at 5-7 days
Dr. Faisal will review you again at 2 weeks and 6 weeks
You can resume gym activities at 2-3 weeks
The compression garment is normally removed at 6 weeks
The best results are achieved for patients with a BMI<28. The closer you are to your final result, the better and more predictable your outcome will be.
Dr. Faisal recommends taking arnica tablets 1 week leading up to the operation. This will help to greatly reduce bruising
Stop smoking 3 weeks before the operation. Smoking has a harmful effect on recovery following surgery
Stop taking blood-thinning tablets such as aspirin, warfarin, and Plavix 1 week before the operation
Notify doctor Faisal of any other medical problems, such as diabetes and hypertension
Avoid heavy exercise 1 week leading up to the operation
